I dream of becoming a meme.
Ummm...excuse me?
My friends affectionately refer to me as "The Queen of Puns" and that is pretty much how my brain works. Memes, gifs, random funny images, videos from the beginning of Youtube, etc. are typically the first thing that comes to mind when communicating with friends, family, and coworkers. I was never great at math or science, but anything visual (like art history!) or storytelling-related, I excelled in!
Art history is the academic discipline that studies the evolution of art across different periods, cultures, and regions, its visual aesthetics, its connection to culture studies, and its ability to convey stories. All the things I like!
"What are you going to do with that?" Well, work in a museum, of course! At the beginning of my career, I dreamed of becoming a museum curator at the Art Institute of Chicago. I wanted to develop exhibits to spark discussions between audiences and collections. Over time, I became interested in utilizing effective storytelling techniques and museum education strategies. I studied how organizations use digital tools to creatively showcase narratives and communicate institutional initiatives to their public.
During the pandemic, I was a Museum Educator in Philadelphia and realized my ability to capture attention, entertain, and connect with audiences was more aligned with social media, content creation, and marketing than museum education. The connection between a museum educator and a social media content creator lies in the shared goal of disseminating knowledge and engaging with an audience. While the platforms and methods may differ, both roles involve the communication of information, storytelling, and fostering a sense of curiosity and learning. Social media platforms allow me to reach a wider audience and engage with people in new, innovative ways while still utilizing my skills of researching, interpreting, and presenting information in an engaging manner, breaking down complex concepts into digestible information, crafting narratives to captivate visitors, make content come alive, foster engagement, and create a sense of community around content.
So back to being a meme...
Memes have become a significant part of online communication and can spread rapidly, creating a shared experience or inside joke among internet users. Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or Reddit can be great places to share your creations and potentially gain attention. These platforms, especially TikTok, have been instrumental in expressing myself, my humor, my personality, and building a community of people who connect to my genuine content. In 2022, I went viral on TikTok and that put into perspective -- I want to do this full-time!

Random Fun FactsI have a beagle-husky-pit mix named Opal -- we are both October babies!
I have aphantasia -- a phenomenon in which people are unable to visualize imagery. While most people are able to conjure an image of a scene or face in their minds, I can only conjure something that I have seen before. In my free time, I am a photographer, collage artist, Marvel fan, foodie, avid traveler, and plant mom. My favorite thing to do is grab a chair in the summer time and sit near Lake Michigan with Opal, either reading a novel, crochetting, or hanging with friends. |
